Civic Taps Former Director Jack Phillips as Interim Head

Spokane Civic Theatre announced today that Jack Phillips will serve as the interim executive director of the theatre beginning in April.

Phillips, who served as executive director from 1991 – 2004, will reprise the role as interim while the theatre conducts a search for its next leader.  Of his interim duties, Phillips said, “My job is to help the board make as smooth and professional a transition to new leadership as I can.”  He went on to say he enjoyed his previous time in Spokane and is looking forward to renewing many of his old friendships as well as creating new ones.  “I have a great respect for the work of the staff and volunteers, and it’s exciting to be a part of that again,” he said.

As part of his duties, Phillips will direct Civic’s 70th anniversary season opener, Disney’s Beauty and the Beast.

Civic Board President, Julie Watts, said, “We look forward to having Jack as our interim director.  His knowledge of our organization and the community will be an invaluable asset in guiding the theatre as it continues to operate during our search process.”

The search for a permanent replacement for outgoing executive director, Keith Dixon, is proceeding as planned, with a job opening slated to be posted for application by the end of March.
