From the Studio: The Civic’s “Significant Other”

LISTEN TO THE RADIO INTERVIEW HERE

Cast and creatives talk about Joshua Harmon’s “New York comedy”

Sarah Dahmen, Matthew Pope, Karen Brathovde and Preston Loomer visited with E.J. Iannelli in the SPR studio to chat about Significant Other by playwright Joshua Harmon.

Dahmen is directing a new production of Harmon’s romantic comedy, which centers on young, single Jordan Berman trying to navigate changing relationships and romances as his circle of close friends starts to marry off.

Pope is playing Berman in this production; Brathovde is playing his grandmother and confidant, Helene. Loomer has three parts in Significant Other as love interests and co-workers.

During the course of the interview, the three actors also performed two short scenes from the play.

Significant Other opens tonight (Friday, September 23, 2022) in the Firth J. Chew studio at the Spokane Civic Theatre. It runs until Sunday, October 16.

Harmon’s play at the Civic happens to be running concurrently in Spokane with another of the playwright’s works, Admissions. The actors and director in that show at Stage Left Theater also appeared on From the Studio earlier in the week.
