K-12 Camps and Classes
This Fall we are offering both a week-long camp format from October 19-23 for SPS students on break or other students who are on flexible schedules, (i.e. homeschool or flexible learning environments) as well as a traditional four week after school class session. Half day camps and regular classes will have a short showcase/open house at the end of the final class meeting.

Shuddersome: Tales of Edgar Allen Poe

The thumping of a heartbeat. The creak of a door. The howl of a bitter wind. The gong of a clock tower. The clang of alarm bells. The sound of beating wings getting closer and closer…This vivid theatrical adaptation of some of Edgar Allan Poe’s best-known works, Poe’s words rise from the page like corpses from the grave. Be careful. Do you hear that tap, tap, tapping?
A Special Civic Education Production – Shuddersome: Tales of Poe is a play in a week experience for grades 3-8. Auditions are September 20 – 21, and rehearsals will occur from 9:00AM – 4:00PM October 19 – 23 at Spokane Civic Theatre. Performances will be October 23 – 25. If cast, there is no fee to participate in this production. Proceeds from this production will benefit Civic Education programs and scholarships.
High School Internships: Show in a Week

This is an opportunity for High School students to support our “show in a week” in a range of capacities, from assisting the directors, to helping with props and effect elements, and whatever other opportunities might arise. These positions require a recommendation from your school theatre teacher or from a director you have worked with within the last year.
Students selected for an internship will receive a Season 79 Complete Membership and a scholarship to go towards the Civic Education Class or Workshop of their choice.
Interns will be selected by the same time as the auditions and will be notified that same week.
Fall Into Creative Dramatics!

Creative Dramatics is an exploration of theatre centering around imaginative expression, using elements of improvisation, movement, dramatizing stories, and group play. This week-long day camp will explore fall stories and themes, incorporating crafts and activities that will complement our dramatic adventures.
This camp also includes special visitors from Hitchhiker’s Theatre with a sneak peek at their production of A Year With Frog and Toad!

The theatre is giving a ball and YOU are invited! Learn about characters and stories that feature adventure, fantasy, knights, princesses, and dragons! We will learn about the elements that make a play and use them to present our own magical story. You may even meet a real prince and princess!
Singing for the Stage

All levels of experience are welcome to learn about what it means to be a singer in a show. Preparing your audition, the rehearsal process, and staying healthy through the run of a show, we will cover it all in this class. Part voice lesson, part show choir, each student will leave with a useable audition cut you can bring to any company in town.
Disappear, Disarm, & Dazzle- Theatrical Effects

Ever wonder how actors combine special effects and combat to create thrilling action scenes? Come join this four week class, where students will learn how to decapitate, disappear, disarm, and dazzle on stage. They’ll create their own special effects through acting techniques and hands-on technical stagecraft — like Foley-style sound work, props, and combat choreography. This class is suitable for beginning and intermediate combat students of all physical ability levels.

Master the Actor’s Audition

Looking to build your acting chops, boost your audition confidence, find the perfect monologue, or start prepping for college auditions? No matter your goals or experience level, this workshop-style class will help you grow as a performer and sharpen your audition skills. Space will be limited in this class, so register soon!
Starting with Winter 2026 Civic Education programming, Spokane Civic Theatre is required to charge sales tax on classes, camps and workshops registration fees, following a new Washington State law (ESSB 5814) that took effect on October 1, 2025.
ESSB 5814 changes the state’s tax code to include youth arts education like music, theatre and dance, in the definition of “live presentations.” As a result, youth arts organizations across Washington state are now required to collect retail sales tax on class tuition. For Civic Education families, this means sales tax will be applied to registration fees.
As a nonprofit arts organization, we recognize that this new law places an additional financial burden on families seeking arts education opportunities for their children, making access to music education more challenging for some. Spokane Civic Theatre remains deeply committed to providing accessible educational programs. Financial assistance is available for all scholastic programming.
We will continue to work alongside arts advocacy organizations across Washington to ensure our legislators understand how such budget decisions impact access to the arts.
