He’s both attended and taught many workshops here. He most recently appeared as Dr. Watson, Mrs. Dilber, and others in 2023’s A Sherlock Carol. Some of the most fun he’s ever had onstage was in The Play That Goes Wrong just after the pandemic, also as Trevor, and he’s thrilled at the chance to be part of the Cornley Drama Society one more time.

Mitch Heid (Jonathan) has recently performed at the Civic in All is Calm (returning cast member), Amadeus (Mozart), and Dracula (Jonathan). Additionally, he had a blast playing Max in The Play That Goes Wrong in 2022. Offstage, he loves treating sore muscles and stressed nervous systems three minutes away from the Civic as a massage therapist at Massage By Mitch. He thanks you for coming out and supporting local theatre, especially as budgets tighten, and strongly encourages you to go connect with your neighbors—only community, mutual aid, and solidarity will get us through everything ahead of us.

He trained at United States International University School of Performing Arts and was nominated for an AACTFest award for his performance of Zangara in Assassins. He also performed 11 seasons at Interplayer’s Professional Theatre and three seasons at Coeur d’Alene Summer Theatre. Gary would like to thank the cast and creative team for their invaluable support in this production.

Other recent roles include Catherine in Proof (Scott Worley Productions), Jo in Lend Me A Soprano, Constanze in Amadeus (both with Civic), Portia / Octavius in Julius Caesar, a Witch in Macbeth, and Teacher in The Same Incident (all with Stage Left). “Thank you to my grandparents for introducing me to theatre!”
Heather Stephens (Lucy) has a BA in Theatre from Eastern Washington University. During Season 77, she played Juliet in Romeo & Juliet and previously she has been in CATS as Etcetera (Civic), Cinderella as Marie (Spokane Children’s Theatre), Shrek as Gingy (CYT), Drowning Ophelia as Ophelia (EWU). *Ben Meginniss (Fly Operator) This is his first show as crew with the Civic. When asked to join the show by Stage Manager Adam Snow, he jumped at the chance to assist with a little bit of controlled chaos. Considering his background in aviation and safety management, the irony of having this show be his first is not lost on him.
Doug Stephens (Fly Operator) has spent a surprising amount of time helping bring larger-than-life characters to the stage at Spokane Civic Theatre. From conjuring the imposing Spirit of Christmas Future in A Christmas Carol to bumbling about in the Bumble the Abominable Snow Monster in Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer, he has discovered that some of the most memorable roles involve being considerably taller than himself. This year, he returns behind the scenes as one half of the marionette controller duo in Peter Pan Goes Wrong, where chaos, confusion, and questionable theatrical decisions are all part of the job description. Doug believes the best part of any production is sharing it with family. In this show, his daughter can be found on stage, while his wife is backstage helping ensure everyone is dressed properly and looking their best before making an entrance. Given the events of Peter Pan Goes Wrong, that may be a more ambitious task than it sounds.
Justin Craigmile (Backstage Crew) is excited to return to the Civic backstage! Recent work at Civic includes crew for Frankenstein, Sweat, Dracula, Murder on the Orient Express, The 39 Steps and The Play That Goes Wrong.

Chloe Smith (Backstage Crew) has been in theater since 2004 both on and off stage. Recent credits include working backstage for Frankenstein, Romeo & Juliet, and Sweat (all with Civic) and stage manager of Hamlet (New Mexico Junior College). Enjoys painting and hanging out with family when not involved with the theater.
Everyone involved in theatrical productions has some tale to tell about a mishap that occurred during a run of a show. As simple as a missed line or a late cue. To the bizarre as a blackout that should not have occurred, to the fantastical as a blown circuit breaker that shut off all musician and conductors stand lights. Those stories all seem to have a similar response/theme, “Well… that’s LIVE theatre!” Plus the all around well known phrase, “The Show Must Go ON.”
This production of Peter Pan Goes Wrong truly brings all of those stories together in one long, fun filled, evening of theatre. You will laugh and gasp as you watch these lovable and hateable characters do their very best to overcome the obstacles of LIVE theatre, and truly put to heart; that the show must go on. Thank you for supporting your local Spokane Civic Theatre and all other community theatres in the area. Enjoy the show.
Bryan D. Durbin, Co-Director
When I think of classic children’s literature, Peter Pan is the first thing that comes to mind. Most of us have at least seen the animated version, if not the live action or stage adaptation of J.M. Barrie’s original play. Its staying power comes from the theme of never growing up, kids hope they can do the same, and adults wish they had. Nothing says childhood like a faraway magical land with fairies, pirates, and… technical difficulties? Injuries? Personal conflict? Wait.
In Peter Pan Goes Wrong the cast has to fight against “Murphy’s Law” buffet of countless mistakes that threaten to end their show entirely. But it is our cultural love of the story, and the dedication of the cast and crew that keeps the show going. That is also what makes it so funny.
We all have an idea of how Peter Pan goes. I’m sure you could explain the basic story beats to me. We know it so well that you might find a regular production boring. So when things go wrong in this show, they shatter your senses of boredom and security. You may know Peter Pan, but you have never seen it like this. This might be the first time since you first encountered the story that makes you genuinely wonder if you’ll see Wendy, John, and Michael make it home.
I hope that you fall in love with these classic characters all over again, as well as the people fighting to tell their story.
