Spokane Civic Theatre is seeking submissions for Civic Education Teaching Artists for the 2026-2027 season. Artists from previous years and those new to Spokane Civic Theatre are encouraged to apply.

All Teaching Artists and education support staff will be required to pass a background check, complete abuse prevention and awareness training, consent-forward training, and must comply with all Civic Education expectations, including timely communication, expectations of civility, and adherence to the policies relating to drugs, alcohol and tobacco specific to Teaching Artists.
All classes for students under 14 are led by two teaching artists. Teaching Artists receive stipends that are paid out in the regular billing cycle following the end of the class, camp, show, or workshop on the 5th or 20th of the month. Classes that fail to reach stated minimums may be cancelled with two weeks notice.

- October 26-November 19 2026 – Four-Week Workshop

- February 15-19 – Revue in a Week Musical Theatre Intensive – gr. 3-12
- February 22-April 1 2027 – Six-Week Class Sessions

Position Descriptions:
- Lead Teacher – A teacher who takes primary responsibility for all planning and execution of the class or camp, in conjunction with the Education Director. Experience working with children and youth required.
- Co-Teacher – A teacher who shares responsibility for planning and execution of the class or camp, in conjunction with the Education Director. Experience working with children and youth required.
- Assistant Teacher – A teaching artist who executes on the plan of the Lead teacher but is not primarily responsible for planning. Assistant teachers are expected to bring their skill set to bear on the needs of the program, and may carry responsibility for activities like warm-ups, ice-breakers, games, etc. Experience working with children and youth preferred.
- Education Stage Director – A hybrid teaching/directing position that both takes the helm of an Education show and is responsible for structuring an educational rehearsal process that meets each youth performer at their current level of skill and seeks to raise their knowledge within the context of a show. Experience working with children and youth required.
- Education Assistant Stage Director – This position supports the Education Stage Director and brings an individual skill set that can carry responsibility for group management, warm-ups, ice-breakers, games, etc. Experience working with children and youth strongly preferred.
- Education Stage Manager – This position supports the production with traditional stage manager responsibilities, combined with strong leadership skills with children and young adults and the ability to manage large groups with empathy and authority. Experience working with children and youth required.
- Education Assistant Stage Manager – This position supports the work of the ESM as well as providing technical support as needed. Experience working with children and youth preferred.
- Education Music Director – When Civic Education produces a musical or a play with music, the EMD is responsible for teaching music and vocal technique, incorporating age-appropriate methods and adapting the score as needed. They should have an understanding of vocal pedagogy for children and youth, as the show requires. The EMD may be requested to create rote-learning tracks as needed. Experience working with children and youth strongly preferred.
- Education Choreographer/Movement Director – This position supports the ESD in creating choreography or specialized movement for Education productions using age-appropriate methods. Experience working with children and youth strongly preferred.
