Education programs at Spokane Civic Theatre provide opportunities to receive comprehensive, high-quality theatrical education experiences through classes and workshops, led by well-qualified theater artists. In line with our Mission statement, Civic Education is an outlet to foster an enduring love for live theater, regardless of experience or means.

Civic Education is being redesigned. Curriculum is developed in progressive levels by age group. All fall 2024 classes are level 1.

Through the analysis and performance of the sonnets written by the world’s most famous playwright, students explore the history, culture and language of Shakespeare. No prior experience or knowledge necessary.

Students seriously pursuing careers and/or degrees in theater develop competitive auditioning techniques. Please note — this class is by audition only.

Interested students should prepare a monologue to perform at the first class. Monologue criteria: 1 minute, must be from a published contemporary play or musical (not from a film script). Students selected to participate in subsequent sessions will be immersed in a rigorous audition curriculum. Students will develop a collection of useable audition material.

Civic Class Cancellation Policy:

Two weeks or more before the first day of class: fully refundable
Less than two weeks before the first day of class: credit on account for future class
Week of the first day of class: no credits or refunds available
