Shakespeare in Schools

Shakespeare in Schools (SIS) is Civic’s Spokane Arts Grant Awards (SAGA) award winning program designed to teach students about the bard with a fun, engaging and interactive curriculum.  Fall, Winter, or Spring, SIS can be found in classroom grades 4 – 12 with our 1, 2, or 3 day program presentations. Civic Class Instructors help make Shakespeare relatable and approachable by breaking down the the concepts of scansion, paraphrasing, and punctuation and culminates in students performing Shakespeare by the end of class.

Existing curriculums include Introducing Shakespeare, Romeo and Juliet, Much Ado About Nothing, Midsummer’s Night Dream, Macbeth, and Hamlet.

School Presentations

Civic has been in classrooms all around the greater Spokane area to lead presentations on public speaking, theater basics, creative movement and more! Have student-authored scenes or monologues for us to perform? Need us to lead theater games? Present a reader’s theater? Host a poetry workshop? Be guest storytellers in your class? You’ve got it! We happily work with educators to tailor lesson plans and presentations to meet the needs of the class and curriculum.

Field Trips

Looking for a fun, unique and memorable field trip for your youth organization or class? We offer facility tours, Q&A sessions with staff and volunteer performers, and activities tailored to your groups needs or interests. Space is limited and availability dependent on production schedule.
