Fall 2022

This fall, Civic Academy will participate in celebrating Civic’s 75 years of entertaining and serving our community by, together in class, exploring the past, present and future of both Civic and the evolution of theatre. From ancient methods of storytelling to modern experiential production, participants will develop or refine fundamental performing arts skills while collaborating with peers and developing community.

Fall 2022 classes are 6 weeks starting the week of September 19 with final performance the week of October 24.

The mischievous minions are tasked with mixing up Gru’s potions…and instead they decided to mix up a little mayhem instead. 

Beginner skills of focus include mimicry, body language and expression, story sequencing, and cause and effect.

Munchkinland! Tuesdays 3:45 - 5:00 PM $150 Register

Designed for young performers in mind, this class explores a day in the life of Munchkinland.

Beginner skills of focus are creative movement,  taking turns, spatial awareness, imagination and the fourth wall.

The Peanuts gang celebrate Halloween in traditional, and not so traditional ways.

Designed for students of varying ages and skill level, this class emphasizes teamwork and collaboration, while also developing strong line delivery and stage presence.

How to Train Your Dragon Mondays 5:00 - 6:30 PM $175 Register

When the island of Berk is attacked, Astrid decides to form her own training camp to protect the island while the team is away at Dragon’s Edge. 

Intermediate skills of focus include active blocking, dialect exploration and diction, and character tropes and development.

Welcome to Oz! Tuesdays 5:00 - 6:30 PM $175 Register

Join Dorothy and friends as they arrive in the Emerald City!

Skills honed and develop during course include ensemble staging, character development, vocalizations, and pantomime 

Ghostbusters Wednesdays 5:00 - 6:30 PM $175 Register

Who ya gonna call?  The wicked ways of Ivo Shandor strike again, forcing the ghostbusters to figure out and stop his paranormal plan before it’s too late. 

Skill areas of focus include reading between the lines, text analysis, character connection, and establishing tone.

Vocal Training for Musical Theatre Thursdays 4:30 - 6:00 pm $200 Register

Develop skills to build confidence in singing onstage. Learn breathing techniques, vocal placement, reading sheet music, connecting with the text and other basics of musical theatre singing. 

There is no final performance for this class.

Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark Thursdays 4:00 - 6:00 PM $200 Register

A fun, thrilling, and exhilarating course for advanced performers to delve deep into the skills of establishing tone, creating atmosphere and developing distinct memorable characters.

Final performance on Saturday, October 29. Venue to be announced.

Registration closes September 9, 2022. Refunds may be issued if a class is cancelled or a student withdraws two weeks prior to the start of class. No refunds once class begins.

All participants must provide emergency contact information, be dropped off and picked up by approved and prior advised guardian/parent only and adhere to health and safety policies on a rolling basis (please expect details via registration confirmation). Please note, all Civic staff and Academy personnel have cleared a national “super search” background check (criminal search of all available US databases, federal and international searches, registered sex offenders, and identification and residential verification).
